What I Like About Our President
On this final day of the year, I'd like to say some nice things about our president. I usually disagree with everything he says, but an item in the daily KOS
had me, uncharacteristically, siding with Bush. Here's an excerpt:
There has been a real disconnect between Bush Administration policies and popular opinion for a while, which is surprising given the strong level of support Bush still receives.
...It's Rove's new kind of polling: it's not about discovering what people want. It's about finding ways to sell policies people don't want. Like tax cuts, and SS privatization, and war. [entire item]
Bush's job is to lead (not follow the polls). If he uses the polls to let him know what he has to sell and what is going to pass, then that's just doing his job well.
If the American public is right, and these are actually bad policies, then this is where the Dems can show us why to vote for them. They should propose alternatives, fight for them, show how Bush's policies will fail, point it out when they do, and have a proposal ready to fix the damage (in other words, do their job). Their actual plan is probably to go around, saying "The American people don't want this". But, it won't work because "The American people like Bush", and they don't believe the Dems would have done it better.
