Bob Graham's Accusations Ignored by the Mainstream Media
The Palm Beach Post reports today
"There was information which the administration and its agencies knew before September the 11th that was not acted upon. That same information is available today -- it's not being acted upon today. That failure to act contributed to September the 11th and the failure to act today continues (to put) Americans in a vulnerable circumstance," Graham said. "I want to underscore -- we're not talking solely about history -- we're talking about threats to the American people today."
Right now, news.google.com
has it as its top story. But there are no links to major news sources. I think it's an accident that the Palm Beach Post story became the top story. All of the rest are about the attacks in Riyadh (which is also covered in this article).
Ok, here's CNN
When pressed on what the administration knew before September 11, Graham said he could not be specific because the information is still classified. He said the administration is labeling much information as such because it is "embarrassing" to the White House.
Buried in the Campaigns section of the New York Times
"I know firsthand, as the former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, how little this administration has done to provide real security at home, while it's directed attention away from the war on terrorism abroad," he said, adding, "Yet, instead of pursuing the most imminent and real threats, international terrorists, this Bush administration chose to settle old scores."
Mr. Graham told reporters later that the "old scores" he was referring to were what he described as the finishing of the war against Mr. Hussein that Mr. Bush's father started in 1991, and avenging a plot by Mr. Hussein to assassinate the elder Mr. Bush.
The article goes on to say that
The tough words attacking President Bush's security and economic policies were delivered in a languorous and at times halting speech that left many supporters squirming in the midday sun.
Hmmm.... How about instead of attacking Graham's speaking manner, you actually address what he is saying? The answer: this article, like many political articles seem to be, was probably written before the speech was made, and the quotes were filled in later. How else to explain the non-reaction to these shocking accusations?
