People Died Over this Bullshit

When Powell said this
Let me say a word about satellite images before I show a couple. The photos that I am about to show you are sometimes hard for the average person to interpret, hard for me. The painstaking work of photo analysis takes experts with years and years of experience, poring for hours and hours over light tables. But as I show you these images, I will try to capture and explain what they mean, what they indicate, to our imagery specialists.

I said that he might as well be talking about this picture -- because we had to take his analysis on blind faith

But, now from Atrios, I see this
Engineering experts from the Defense Intelligence Agency have come to believe that the most likely use for two mysterious trailers found in Iraq was to produce hydrogen for weather balloons rather than to make biological weapons, government officials say.

Have they no decency?

Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto

Everyone is clamoring to claim the Gore endorsement is going to their candidate, but the obvious loser here has to be Joe Lieberman (notwithstanding his getting the coveted second spot on the DailyKos Cattle Call). Lieberman had the de facto endorsement until now.

Also, anyone in congress who voted for the war has to be a low probability to get the endorsement as well, considering his pointed remarks about oversight and balance of power. That leaves Dean, Graham, Kucinich, Sharpton, and Braun from the declared and Clark from the major undeclared.

I think the endorsement is going to go to the Dean/Graham ticket at this point. Major Democratic Hawks (as Gore, Graham, and Clark are) have the Dean position on Iraq, but are not seen as weak on defense. At some point, when Dean is the inevitable candidate, they will make it clear why Dean is no Dove.

It's striking how close the Graham and Dean position on Iraq is -- Graham knows it, but he can't seem to light that fire or tap into the part of the Democratic party that agrees with him.

Kerry's 200k

From Not-Geniuses I find out that Kerry is announcing 200+k volunteers. I'm sure all of the candidates are stretching the idea of a volunteer, but I'll shed some light on the Kerry number.

Kerry is a very popular Senator who has run very well managed campaigns in Massachusetts, which has a lot of people and we're all Democrats and we all vote for him.

200k is kind of low for a supporter list, actually.

Bob Roberts

Tim Robbins should make an effort to get Bob Roberts re-released. It was originally released in 1992, but it has some amazingly prescient scenes, includingAnd the attacks on Big Media and the incessant flag-waving seem especially modern -- check out this cover-art of Bob wrapping himself in the flag.

If you haven't seen it in a while, or never saw it, it's worth a rental -- sometimes I literally had my jaw open watching it.
