Gulf War I / Gulf War II Voting
I was talking with a Dean staffer in NH yesterday about Kerry and his votes for Gulf War I and II. I thought it was weird to vote against I and for II, and we wondered if anyone else had done that. The answer is Yes.
Data from here: Gulf War I
, Gulf War II
There are 10 senators who voted this way: Baucus, Biden, Daschle, Dodd, Grassley, Harkin, Hollings, Kerry, Kohl, and Rockefeller. My preferred position (and Howard Dean's position) of Yea on I and Nay on II was only voted by Bob Graham, Jim Jeffords, and Lincoln Chafee. Only 47 Gulf II senators were in the Senate for the Gulf War I vote. Yea on both was voted by 23 senators, and Nay on both by 11.
Here is a spreadsheet with my tabulations
Kerry Wins Game 2
Ok, we're down 2-0, but it's not over and Boston always chokes. I call on the Curse of the Bambino to take Kerry down. Ok, I know, Dean likes the Sox too -- But he's a native NY'er and a Vermont Yankee to boot -- and Kerry is definitely the bigger Sox fan. Remember, this is the curse -- Kerry will lose just when his victory seems certain.
Feb 3 is game 3. Feb 7-10 is game 4. Get ready to swing the bat
