WHEN Has Two Candidates to Pick From
Don't like this
PITTSFIELD -- When WHEN burst onto the Pittsfield political scene in 2003, the grassroots group wanted to change the face of the City Council.
Now the organization is feeling growing pains as it tries to decide whether to get involved in the race to fill the Statehouse seat vacated by Peter J. Larkin, a move that would mean having to choose between two of its own.
I hope WHEN gets involved in the primary -- no reason not to, just because there is more than one good candidate. Unions, for example, have to do this all of the time. The real question is, what is best for WHEN? The downside is not backing a loser, like this article is suggesting. The downside to endorsing is splitting their membership. They already have prominent members backing the two candidates -- so it will be tough to deny one of them the power of the organization.
