Vickery v. Miers
From a Vickery Press release:
President George W. Bush today announced his nomination of Harriet Miers for a position on the United States Supreme Court. This nomination is troubling for me, and it brings to mind issues we face here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A Bush Loyalist:
With the nomination of Miers, the President has nominated an unswerving Bush loyalist. This calls into question the President's commitment to the independence of the judicial branch of government.
Picking up the Tab for Tom Delay:
As a partner with a major Dallas law firm, Miers contributed thousands of dollars to Tom DeLay's legal defense fund. Do we really want a Supreme Court nominee who has picked up the tab for Tom DeLay?
What it Means for Massachusetts:
Someone with this record would never get onto the bench in Massachusetts on my watch. On the Governor's Council, I remain committed to keeping our Massachusetts judiciary fully independent from political pressures.
Damn straight that wouldn't happen here!
