Vickery Supporting Deval Patrick
is reporting that Peter Vickery is supporting Deval
A few weeks ago, Peter Vickery, the elected Governor's Councilor from western, MA [the Governors Council ratifies judicial nominations in MA) convened a group of about 20 progressive democratic activists and leaders. He reports that "the people who were in the room, were enthusiastic about Deval's candidacy and agreed that they would urge thier organizations to back him. I came away from the meeting, agreeing to support him openly." (full disclosure: I was part of the convened 20 or so)
"Deval Patrick is a progressive democrat in the broadest sense," Vickery concludes, "and he is getting the support of progressives who are determined to win the gubernatorial election in 2006."
Vickery Politics Forum
From Peter Vickery's e-mail newsletter
Peter ran an issues-focused campaign, and that's how we mean to continue. So the Vote Vickery website has a new feature--a discussion board for exchanging opinions about politics and policy. Link to board
Politics is not about personalities. It is policy that matters most. In election after election we see that positioning, packaging, trimming, And appeasing just do not work. The Vote Vickery team believes that we Democrats can win the 2006 gubernatorial race if we focus on our key principles and the policies that will put those principles into action.
The point of the discussion board is simple. In 2006, we need a gubernatorial candidate who is committed to the Platform of the Massachusetts Democratic Party and who can advocate for it persuasively. Supplementing the Platform with new, practical, progressive policy proposals will help our gubernatorial nominee (and the Party as a whole) show how the Democratic Party will continue to make life better for ordinary working families.
