Still Work to Do
This Kos diary
reminds us that there is still work to do to ensure gay marriage remains legal in Massachusetts.
I've been getting worried appeals from MassEquality, the political umbrella organization working at the State House to defend equal marriage rights in Massachusetts. Funding for our side has dried up.
Why? Because the media has been completely misleading, making it sound like equality is safe and sound. But it isn't.
if you can.
Today is the anniversary of gay marriage in Massachusetts. Kristen
has a round up of opinion pieces.
Deval Patrick in Northampton
Deval Patrick is making a Western Mass swing on May 21st (this Saturday). He'll be in North Adams, Pittsfield
, and Greenfield.
More Convention Coverage
Jesse Gordon's comment
on the new Cape Ann Dem blog
has the best explanation of what happened at the end of the convention. Michael Wilcox
has some thoughts on Deval in Amherst and at the Convention. I need to add these two and Left in Lowell
to my ever growing MA Politcal Blogroll soon.Update:

State Dem Convention
Finally getting around to a MA State Democratic Convention post, Fred is keeping track of others.
I'm biased, but I think the story of the convention is the emergence of Deval Patrick as a genuine star in the Massachusetts Democratic party. I was helping with floor activities and was visibly a supporter (wearing the neon t-shirt that was visible from any part of the arena) -- after he spoke, many fellow delegates came up to tell me how much they liked the speech. The text is here
, but I hope there's some video soon. Patrick fit in very well with Ted Kennedy and Howard Dean, both gifted orators.
The campaign paid careful attention to details, the t-shirt was a genius idea -- gave everyone in the arena a good idea of how many supporters there were. They also had a piece of lit, very well produced, titled "How to (finally) Elect a Democrat to the Governor's Office" with a picture of Deval and Jim McGovern (who has endorsed
). The "yes, we can" refrain in the speech was another great idea.
I had a great time -- met a lot of new people (including sco at .08
The Republican says
Deval L. Patrick, a former assistant attorney general in charge of civil rights, drew roars of approval from the convention after he delivered an emotional address that could establish him as a rising star in the party.
[...]Patrick sounded traditional Democratic themes, and called on delegates to say "yes, we can" if critics raise doubts about reviving cities such as Lawrence, Pittsfield, or Springfield.
"When somebody tells you we can't have both a strong economy and social justice, or both quality health care and universal health care, say, 'yes, we can'," Patrick said in the Paul E. Tsongas Arena. "When somebody tells you we can't have decent jobs at decent wages, so that working families see a way up, say 'yes, we can'."
His camp dominated the convention floor, handing out literature and about 250 T-shirts.
