Vickery at my polling place
From his press release
Governor's Councilor Peter Vickery will gather signatures Tuesday for the Common Cause Massachusetts Fair Districts for Fair Elections ballot petition. Vickery, a dedicated election reform advocate, will talk to voters casting their ballots at the Walter Salvo House, 81 Conz Street in Northampton, from 1 – 2 p.m., asking them to support the initiative.
More information on this petition.
here. I was there this morning holding a sign for
Marjorie Hess.
GOP Culture of Corruption hits Chicopee
The GOP Culture of Corruption invades the Chicopee race for Mayor:
Chicopee's mayor was arrested Tuesday, a week before Election Day, after federal agents allegedly caught him on videotape taking $10,000 in cash from two business owners seeking favors from the city.
Richard Goyette, 36, a Republican running for a second term, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with extortion. He did not enter a plea and was released on personal recognizance following an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Springfield. A grand jury is now expected to hear the case.
I'd like to take this time to urge you to vote for Mike Bissonnette for Mayor of Chicopee. He was the best choice before this horrible news and is certainly the obvious choice now.
Fair Districts
From the
State House News Service:
A bipartisan group of political heavyweights yesterday threw their support behind a proposed ballot initiative that would strip the Legislature of its constitutional power to redraw district lines.
The group, including Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick, current Republican Party executive director Tim O'Brien, and former governor Michael Dukakis, endorsed a ballot proposal they say would put an end to political gerrymandering and make the process of redrawing 160 House districts and 40 Senate districts more open and fair.
"In a healthy democracy, the voters choose representatives," Patrick said. "In the system we have, the representatives choose the voters. That's upside down."
I happen to be gathering signatures for this, and nothing has been more instantly persuasive to a wavering signer than naming the right endorser. Once you get a sense of who the person is, who they like, there's usually an endorser that will persuade them to sign. So far, I've been sticking with State Reps, but having Patrick, Dukakis, Harshbarger, and Tolman on board doesn't hurt.
Vickery v. Miers
From a Vickery Press release:
President George W. Bush today announced his nomination of Harriet Miers for a position on the United States Supreme Court. This nomination is troubling for me, and it brings to mind issues we face here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A Bush Loyalist:
With the nomination of Miers, the President has nominated an unswerving Bush loyalist. This calls into question the President's commitment to the independence of the judicial branch of government.
Picking up the Tab for Tom Delay:
As a partner with a major Dallas law firm, Miers contributed thousands of dollars to Tom DeLay's legal defense fund. Do we really want a Supreme Court nominee who has picked up the tab for Tom DeLay?
What it Means for Massachusetts:
Someone with this record would never get onto the bench in Massachusetts on my watch. On the Governor's Council, I remain committed to keeping our Massachusetts judiciary fully independent from political pressures.
Sincerely,
Peter Vickery
Governor's Councilor
Eighth District
Damn straight that wouldn't happen here!
Electability Proven
Michael has the Zogby poll.Says Zogby, "Romney is trailing his potential Democratic challengers. His Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey polls even worse." He then shows three matchups, showing Tom Reilly ahead by 57.9% to 34.1%, Galvin leading by 55.1% to 35%, and Patrick beating the current guv by 53.8% to 35.2%.
Ok, Reilly, now
your only piece of lit needs updating.
